Can you use Klarna on Amazon UK? The four routes checked

Can you use Klarna on Amazon? Not at Amazon UK's checkout. We read both firms' UK pages: the Klarna Card, the app route, gift cards and what it costs.

Can you use Klarna on Amazon? Not as an option at Amazon UK’s own checkout: Amazon’s accepted payment methods page, as read on 19 October 2026, does not list Klarna. Klarna’s UK pages describe two routes round that: the Klarna Card, which Klarna says works anywhere Visa is accepted, including Amazon, and shopping Amazon inside the Klarna app.

This is an evergreen question, and the answer is only as good as the pages behind it. This desk read Amazon.co.uk’s Accepted Payment Methods help page, Klarna’s Klarna Card help answer on marketplaces, its Amazon store page, its cards page and its help page on Klarna Card payment methods on 19 October 2026. Amazon’s page refused a direct request and was read through a search provider’s copy. Everything below is as those pages stood that day.

Can you use Klarna on Amazon at checkout?

Amazon’s page lists the methods “available for use”: Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards, American Express, Pay by Bank, UK-based Maestro, Instalments by Barclays, Amazon Monthly Payments and Shop with Points, alongside Amazon.co.uk Gift Cards. Klarna is not on it. The same page says you can split a payment between one accepted card and an Amazon.co.uk Gift Card, but not across several cards.

That is a statement about one help page on one day, not a forecast of Amazon’s plans. Klarna’s own Amazon store page, as read here, does not claim Amazon’s checkout takes Klarna either; it sends you to the Klarna app.

How does the Klarna Card work on Amazon?

Klarna’s help answer is one line: “Yes - you can use your Klarna Card anywhere Visa is accepted, including marketplaces like Amazon and Zalando.” Amazon’s list includes Visa, so the card goes through checkout as a card.

What happens behind it depends on the mode. Klarna’s payment-methods help page says the card “is always set to debit mode” by default, spending from your Klarna balance. To pay later you first apply for a Pay later plan in the app, and an approved plan “will only apply to your next purchase”. The order is plan first, Amazon basket second.

Splitting is not free on the cards page read. It says paid membership is required to access Klarna Card Pay Later plans, at a Representative APR of 35.1% (fixed). The separate Klarna Credit Card also needs paid membership, carries a Representative APR of 9.5% (variable), and charges 27.9% fixed interest on conversions into 3, 6 or 12-month plans; Klarna’s example of £1,200 over 12 months costs £334.80 in interest, £1,534.80 in all. The page text this desk read gave no membership prices, so none is quoted here. It also says applying for the card “won’t impact your credit score”. Where memberships and interest sit in Klarna’s income is set out in how Klarna makes money.

How does the Klarna app route to Amazon work?

Klarna’s Amazon store page gives three steps: open the Klarna app and search for Amazon, follow the in-app instructions to pay, then manage payments, orders and reminders in the app. In the text read here, it does not say which payment options or fees apply on that route, and this post does not guess.

Eligibility, on the same page: you must be a UK resident, at least 18, hold a valid card or bank account and be able to receive text verification codes. Klarna says “There is no predefined spending limit”; a new automated decision is made each time you pay, based on payment history, outstanding balance, basket size and its ability to identify you. Asked whether it checks credit, the page answers: “Yes, we perform a credit check.” What that does to a UK credit file is covered in does Klarna affect your credit score.

Can you buy an Amazon gift card with Klarna?

Some guides suggest buying an Amazon gift card with Klarna and spending it at Amazon. Klarna’s UK store page answers “Can I use Klarna to buy anything?” with a list of exceptions, and gift cards are on it, beside utility bills, rent, gambling and subscription services. That is Klarna’s rule about what Klarna will pay for; it says nothing about how Amazon treats a gift card. This desk does not suggest routing round a lender’s stated exclusions. Gift cards are also among the exclusions in Klarna’s Buyer Protection terms, as this site’s read of that cover set out.

Questions readers ask

How do I use Klarna for Amazon?

Amazon UK’s payment methods page, as read on 19 October 2026, does not list Klarna, so there are two Klarna routes. Pay with a Klarna Card, which Klarna says works wherever Visa is accepted, setting up any Pay later plan in the app first. Or open the Klarna app, search for Amazon and follow its instructions. Either way Klarna makes its own approval decision.

Can I use my Klarna Card with marketplaces like Amazon and Zalando?

Yes, according to Klarna’s UK help centre: the card works anywhere Visa is accepted, including Amazon and Zalando. It is in debit mode by default. Paying later needs a plan approved in the app before the purchase and paid membership, and carries a Representative APR of 35.1% (fixed), per Klarna’s cards page.

Can I use Klarna to buy anything?

“Almost”, says Klarna’s UK store page. The exceptions it lists are utility bills or rent, gift cards, government bills and fines, medical care, online gaming or gambling, rideshare services, subscription services, and drugs or alcohol, with its terms carrying the fuller list. On Klarna’s own wording, that rules out the Amazon gift-card workaround.

Fin Watch is a publisher, not an adviser, and nothing here is a recommendation to use Klarna, the Klarna Card or Amazon’s own instalment products. Payment lists and card terms change: read Amazon’s and Klarna’s pages on the day you buy, and check any lender’s status on the FCA’s Firm Checker before you borrow.
